When the Animal Control Facility is closed or when the Animal Control Officer is off-duty, our Police Patrol Officers handle all animal related complaints.

Adoption

Animal adoptions from the Animal Shelter for a neutered animal cost $5.00. The cost for an unneutered animal is $50.00.This cost includes the cost of 2 vaccinations and partial cost of neutering.
The new owner is responsible for all necessary vaccinations and licensing of the adopted animal.

Dog Laws

Roaming Dogs

– Sec. 22-364(a)
States in part that a dog is not allowed off its own property unless it is on a leash. Fine is $92.00

Nuisance Dog

– Sec. 22-363 Covers excessive barking etc. The fine is $75.00

Rabies Vaccination

Every dog and cat is required to have a current rabies vaccination. Fine is $136.00

Licensing

Every dog over six months of age is required to be licensed with the Town. The cost of licensing is $8.00 for a neutered dog and $19.00 for an un neutered dog. Licensing is done by the Town Clerk at the Town Hall. The fine for an unlicensed dog is $75.00

Leash Law/Scoop Law

Town Ordinance Sec 214-3 says in part that in any Park, Beach or open space under the jurisdiction of the Parks & Recreation Commission, pets shall be on a leash no longer than seven feet. Further that owners shall remove animal defecation immediately.
